LISTEN: Adventureland Echoes Dawes & Delivers Strong Instrumental Restraint On “Sun/Body”

“Sun/Body”, the latest single from Little Rock’s Arkansas indie-rockers Adventureland, is a moody and surprisingly lush ballad that finds triumph in its instrumental restraint and rich vocal harmonies reminiscent of Dawes. The band comes together in an egoless blend that encapsulates the understated beauty that lies in the ever-present uncertainty of the human condition. “Sun/Body” is off of Adventureland’s sophomore LP Eternal Lightweight released Jan.1, 2023.

“Sun/Body” is the final song off our sophomore LP, Eternal Lightweight. I wrote the lyrics on a solo drive from Washington State to Arkansas. I came up with the melody and guitar riff six months prior, so with so many hours on the road, I had the freedom to play with many combinations of words until something felt right, moving line by line. Much of the imagery from the song was taken from the visual landscapes that passed by my window.

“At the time, someone I loved was in pain. Whenever my mind drifted towards them, I felt so much anger. It scared me because I didn’t quite know where it was coming from or where it was going. In many ways, “Sun/Body” is a reaction to that unprocessed anger and an imagining of how we love each other, and ourselves, through pain,” says the band.
