The tonal perfection of the rhythm section is what will initially draw you into “Picking up the Pieces” The newest indie rock ballad from Argentina’s Zepet. Drawing from modern production-heavy songwriters like Mac Demarco, but with a Brit-pop sensibility, the track introduces itself with tight drums holding the foundation while dreamy melodic guitar and keyboards float above it all. Zepets voice is effortlessly strong in its higher register. He almost teases a falsetto without ever losing the full tone of his voice before dropping back down to an almost Nilsson-esque tenor in the lead-up to the infectiously catchy high energy chorus. “Picking up the Pieces” is the title track from his recently released debut record.
“The song is about exposing too much of oneself to your partner. It’s about not knowing how to withhold certain thoughts, that ultimately leads to all the mystery disappearing, and the relationship eventually coming to an end,” says Zepet.
