Midnight North kicked off its winter tour on Thursday, February 16th at The Hamilton Live in Washington D.C., a regular stop for the Marin County-based outfit featuring Grahame Lesh and Elliott Peck sharing vocal and guitar duties. It was the first show of the year for the group, and 2023 started off in memorable fashion. With Tedeschi-Trucks Band performing the first of three nights around the corner at the Warner Theater, the night was ripe for what became an exciting drop-in as Midnight North first welcomed Tedeschi-Trucks Band trumpeter Ephraim Owens and saxophonist Kebbi Williams to the stage during an encore presentation of “Keep Your Lamp Trimmed and Burning” (a Blind Willie Johnson cover) and then Susan Tedeschi herself for the night’s closer, the Grateful Dead’s “Turn On Your Love Light,” highlighted by the TTB co-leader playfully wrapping right around Grahame to commandeer his Gibson Les Paul.
