Cooper Kenward writes warm feel-good-even-if-you-feel-bad songs. Hailing from a small town in Northern California, he never really thought he would be making music at this age. It was always a hobby, a secret whispered into a Radio Shack mic in the back of a closet. After playing in a couple of bands in San Francisco, Cooper moved to Los Angeles where he currently directs music videos and hangs out with his gingers, pitbull Bonnie Raitt and cat Willie Nelson.
On “Make Me Blue” Kenward wits us with something that feels so familiar at its core, but feels so fresh in execution. He really has a way of expressing melancholy with his voice that is natural and genuine. The instrumentation evokes vintage rockers like 70’s Springsteen while his songwriting and inflection really accent a lot more modern folk and indie rock sounds. The crisply distorted slide guitar solo at the end is an excellent bonus from this tune that really takes it over the top.
