LISTEN: Todd Binder Brings Passionate & Percussive Songwriting Approach On “Alameda”

Todd Binder is an indie-rock artist who began his career in Charlottesville, VA. Performing his original music on the local bar scenes for the University of Virginia and surrounding cities, he quickly gained a reputation for his high-energy shows and songwriting talent.

Via an emotional outburst, Binder shares his new single, “Alameda”. The track is steady and grounded, reminiscent of a Phosphorescent-like percussive build and vocal approach; “Alemeda” is built on slapback snare hits and a concise vocal attack. A passionate and impressive release from the California based indie artist.

“I find it difficult to separate myself from the characters and subject-matter I write about, so I tend to write in layers, similar to the way painters often build up their media for depth. Alameda has that in spades as it explores the weight of subtlety and reciprocity. On the surface, it’s a story about a sailor at war, hanging on to what he can, aiming to prove his worth. Digging in a little deeper, it’s admittedly about my hunger for validation and acceptance as an artist. Deeper still, a reciprocal and cyclical aspect of social interaction is exposed. As is commonly the case in relationships: at some point in time, one side falls out of balance. What happens when there’s distance? Or when there’s no dialog other than what’s inside your own head? What stories do we tell ourselves? Over time, there’s an emotional toll to be paid. Will the relationship change? There’s no answer here, which is what makes it bittersweet. And it might sit a little heavy, so the musical arrangement is there to comfort and revive, in a way that maybe only music can. Then you play it again!” describes Binder.
