For more than twenty years, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer Anna Rose has toured the United States headlining intimate shows and opening for an array of illustrious global acts. Time on the road, and in the studio for her three full-length studio albums, has honed her song-crafting skills and fueled the storytelling fire that burns within this Nashville-based, New York-raised independent artist.
Rose puts it all out there on the title track of her latest full-length release Last Girl of the Rodeo. Grammy-nominated producer Paul Moak doesn’t hold back when it comes to studio bells and whistles, but they never come off as too heavy-handed. Instead, Rose’s voice takes the lead in a powerful crescendo conjuring comparisons to Brandi Carlisle.
“I have so much discomfort with where music is now, in terms of the art that you make often being predicated on your appearance,” acknowledges Rose. “I put myself through the wringer of trying to be the best commercial artist that I could be. In doing that, I removed a piece of myself that was probably the most important. I think that’s why this record feels so good to me. It just feels like the truth. I feel like I needed to give myself permission to do that,” says Rose.
