While the term “Americana” almost always refers to songs with a heavy country folk-leaning ( or “unsuccessful county music” as Todd Snider likes to say), the new single “Brave” from Gilded Lows seems to fit the term perfectly while avoiding all the trappings and preconceived notions that come with it. Pulling inspiration from across the charts of the last 70 years or so, “Brave” is a big beautiful musical mutt that may not qualify for Westminster Kennel Club, but is a damn good dog all the same.
“This record was recorded in two very hectic days at Ice Cream Factory Studios. All Eight songs were nearly recorded live, with a couple of overdubs, save for the last note of the record which was rerecorded 8/19/23,” says Carter.
