Billy Idol Remains Vital Rock Icon With Invigorating Boston Performance (SHOW REVIEW/PHOTOS)

Billy Idol and his band brought the house down at Boston’s MGM Music Hall on September 9th, delivering a high-energy performance that left fans electrified. With a legendary band lineup featuring Steve Stevens (lead guitar), Stephen McGrath (bass), Billy Morrison (guitar), Erik Eldenius (drums), and Paul Trudeau (keyboards), the stage was set for an unforgettable night of rock ‘n’ roll. After Alex Cameron’s intriguing warm-up performance, which channeled Bowie and Bryan Ferry, the crowd began to buzz with anticipation, knowing they were about to witness a true rock icon in action.

The setlist was a trip down memory lane for fans of Billy Idol, featuring classic hits like “Dancin’ With Myself”, “Cradle of Love,” “Flesh for Fantasy,” “Eyes Without a Face” and “One Hundred Punks.” Of course, no Billy Idol concert would be complete without the iconic anthem “Rebel Yell,” and when the opening notes of “Dancin’” rang out, the crowd erupted. It was a spine-tingling moment as fans sang in unison with their – idol.

One of the standout moments of the night came midway through the set when Steve Stevens took center stage for a mesmerizing acoustic and electric guitar solo that included a hefty nod to the mighty Led Zeppelin. It was nothing short of impressive and served as a testament to his virtuosity. The audience was captivated, and the cheers and applause that followed were deafening.

The energy in the room was truly electric throughout the whole performance. Each song was performed with an infectious energy that had the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs. Billy Idol’s unmistakable voice, still as powerful as ever, resonated through the venue, transporting everyone back to the heyday of ’80s rock.

As the band returned for the encore, crowd participation was in full effect once again, with “Hot in the City”. Like “Mony, Mony” from earlier in the set, “City” was a massive sing-along. The connection between Billy Idol and his fans was palpable, creating a sense of unity and shared nostalgia that transcended generations. As the night drew to a close, Billy Idol and his band delivered a memorable finale with “White Wedding.” The stage was bathed in white light, and the audience, sang, and danced together, making it a truly magical moment.

With a band of seasoned pros and a setlist packed with hits, Idol proved that he’s still a viable rock icon. Steve Stevens’ guitar prowess and the crowd’s enthusiastic participation added extra layers of excitement to an already fantastic show. Billy Idol’s music may be timeless, and his live performance is a testament to the enduring power of rock ‘n’ roll. It was a night that will be remembered by fans for years to come.
