LISTEN: Bison Bone Brings Confessional & Poetic Grace On Springsteen-esque “Blue Collar Hard”

Denver-based Bison Bone’s newest five-song EP, 40 Grit (out Oct.10th), is about relationships, travel, rural America, contentment, and the reflection of time. “There was not much pre-production, if any, before getting in the room together and pressing record. It was a very collaborative process as far as the dynamics and what instruments and vibe each song needed. Sonically this work being very different from the previous Bison Bone output. This time around the melody of the song, with more layers and dynamics carry the load.”

With an honest and forthright lyrical design, Bison Bone brings us a Springsteen-esque jewel on its new single “Blue Collar Hard”. The song is confessional yet also poetic, as Whitehead ranges from his low vibrator to a controlled outpouring. Ripe with choice lyrical nuggets and a rich musical foundation, singer Courtney Whitehead has a strong vocal presence, reminiscent of greats Terry Allen and Guy Clark.

Bison Bone’s frontman Courtney Whitehead writes “Blue Collar Hard” a song about a character from rural America and his awareness and appreciation of time and relationships. While being present in the mundane and showing up every day still working with his hands in a job that isn’t the most glamorous.
