Lahnah is a self-proclaimed “experimental butt rock” band from Philadelphia, PA. Focusing on absurdity and bombast, they craft mercurial and dense songs for fans of 70s prog rock (i.e., King Crimson, Zappa) to contemporary noise rock (i.e., Model Actriz, Gilla Band). The band comprises Tomis Shadis on vocals and guitar, Asher Johnson on bass, and Kyle Ross on drums.
Lahnah’s new single “Raunchadelic” is not inherently conventional, but the staggering sense of urgency does feel familiar. The band successfully captured the expansive playing field of modern post-punk without borrowing from any one era or icon from the genre, landing them on a complex yet warmly inviting sound. The haunting guitar melodies emphasize the eerie feel of the vocals as each element awkwardly sits next to each other, creating a dense and dynamic wall of artsy prowess. There is a Vaudeville-like absurdity to “Raunchadelic” that gives it the charm of theater while still keeping one foot in the gritty, experimental world of art-rock. Lahnah dissected the modern rock world and rebuilt their refreshing take with “Raaunchadelic,” a head-spinning single with jagged guitars and hypnotic vocals.
“‘Raunchadelic’ was invented to be Lahnah’s most fun and absurd song. It is the standout single from a collection of tracks recorded at Prism Analog in Portland, Maine, in the winter of 2022,” explains the band when asked about the new single. “The lyrics focus on the duality of singer Tomis’s natural disgusting behavior as a child and his Catholic upbringing. Purity is unnatural. This is the meaning of the title, Raunchadelic – the raunchy and uncouth nature of man.”
