John Mailander [pronounced My-lander] is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist based in Nashville, TN. As a performer, producer, composer, educator, and recording artist, John is known for his voice on the fiddle, mandolin, and other stringed instruments.

His new self-produced album, Let The World In (due out January 24th), sees the addition of piano and electronics into the mix, and is the spiritual third in a trilogy of “Forecast” records and the second “true” album as a band since 2021’s Look Closer.

Forecast is a Nashville-based collective of visionary musicians led by Mailander that originally assembled for the live debut of John’s 2019 album, Forecast. The group adopted the name for a series of residency
shows in Nashville and John Mailander’s Forecast has since developed a dedicated following through their adventurous improvisations, singular collaborations, and genre-bending, joyful musical explorations. Along with “conducting” the Forecast, Mailander is a member of Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers. His playing can be heard on albums by Billy Strings (including the Grammy-winning album Home), Noah Kahan, Joy Williams, Lucy Dacus, Molly Tuttle, Joe K. Walsh, Chatham County Line, and many more.

Today Glide is offering an exclusive premiere of the standout title track “Let The World In” along with its animated video. Laced with fiddle and a softer folk-rock sound, the instrumental gradually unfolds as if it’s a natural jam taking place onstage at a festival. Their is a progressive sound to the composition, as each musician carefully layers into a solo to take a moment in the spotlight before dropping back into the expansive yet quiet groove. There is a subtle force to this song and it serves as a proper showcase for the musical chemistry that lies within this talented group of players.

John Mailander describes the inspiration and process behind the tune:

‘Let The World In’ is the title track of our new album. It is also the first track, and to me, establishes the direction and intention of the album as a whole by encompassing many of the sounds and themes to come. This track introduces all of the band members, and features a Beatles-inspired sound collage of poetry and sounds from some of my dearest friends in Nashville. One goal of this album, and of this track specifically, is to reflect the obscure emotional space between (and connectivity of) sorrow and joy. ‘Let The World’ In showcases this wider scope of the new album, and I hope will offer something new to uncover with each listen.

The animation was made by my friend Ryan Usher (aka Grouch Bucket) here in Nashville. We collaborated on ideas for an evolving space scene with Earth at the center, changing with the music and incorporating themes of the album. Ryan brought this all to life in a really creative, engaging, and fun way. Check out more of his work at https://www.grouchbucketart.com.
