In case you haven’t already heard the news, David Johansen sadly passed away last Saturday (2/28) at the age of 75 after fighting a long/private battle with brain cancer. Perhaps best known as the frontman of the seminal proto-punk band the New York Dolls, it’s tough to overstate his impact on rock and roll history trajectory during the 70s. Not only were the Dolls a vital part of the burgeoning glam-rock scene at the time, but they also proved to be hugely influential to the rise of hair-metal that sprouted in the subsequent decade, with bands like Motley Crue borrowing heavily from the Doll’s signature look, flair, and style
. But as most folks know, there was much more to the New York Dolls than just their flamboyant image. Indeed, they weren’t all just brass and sass, they also happened to kick a whole lot of ass, as evidenced by this raucous performance of their signature ripper “Personality Crisis” emphatically demonstrates. Crank it!
