LISTEN: Django Duyns Showcases Penchant For Dreamy and Vulnerable Pop On “A Universe”

Django Duyns is an Amsterdam-based composer and singer-songwriter. Nowadays, working as a solo artist, he formed bands such as Pale Puma. He has a long-standing collaboration with Marien Dorleijn (Moss) as his producer/ mixer. His long-awaited debut album, True Blue Vision, was released on April 25 via Excelsior Recordings. His songs have an introspective grandeur. Noir and dreamy guitar lines intertwine with sincere vocal delivery and lyrics dealing with mental health awareness and his visions on the world inside and out.

In a hazy daze of sun-drenched melodies and bright guitars, Duyns explores the bottom of the emotional barrel on “A Universe.” The highlight from the artist’s recently released LP, the stunning ballad is an exercise in juxtapositions and vulnerability. “A Universe” finds Duyns crooning out pop-leaning melodies and heartbreaking poetry. The ballad is a profoundly personal track disguised as a swaying pop tune hellbent on radio domination. While the tones bring to mind a lush field of lavender, the lyrics depict a bouquet of nearly-dead roses with no one to receive them. Duyns toes this line infectiously, showcasing his knack for songcraft while simultaneously introducing himself as an honest writer with a penchant for personal journeys. “ Universe” is a stand-out performance on True Blue Vision that sways and grooves while the artist attempts to make sense of a tragic story of loss and longing.

“‘A Universe’ is a song full of introspective grandeur and dreamy grooves, written in a time when I was figuring out my way in music and life,” explains Duyns. “It’s a track dealing with mental health awareness and figuring out your place in your universe and the world around you.”
