HQ’d in Jersey City, New Jersey, ROYAL BLUSH blends nostalgic alt-rock roots with a modern edge. Formed in 2021 by guitarist Andrew Merclean, what began as a solo project quickly became a fiery ensemble. Joined by Midwest-born vocalist Al, collaborative songwriting became a pillar of the band’s expression. Since then, Blush has regularly released singles, each displaying a unique snapshot of the time spent exploring sonic environments. 2024 was a defining year for the band, with many key songs completed and longtime producer Patryk Sikorski officially joining the line-up.
Royal Blush seems to love juxtaposing moods and exploring the corridors that connect them, and their latest single showcases their findings. “Go” is an explosive, grungy, energetic hard rock tune with an explosive chorus that bleeds into sentimental yet hard-hitting verses. With a stadium-sized chorus like this, it is easy to get lost in the swelling guitars and neck-breaking drums, but Royal Blush isn’t all over-the-top distortion. The verses on “Go” showcase the vocalist’s cartoonish range and ability to transition from swaying croons to screaming yelps seamlessly. “Go” only begins to highlight Royal Blush’s intricate hard rock prowess, but for a young band, it seems they have already found a sound they can call their own. The band’s new single is a warping, face-melting anthem that blurs the lines between moods in order to achieve its uniquely enticing textures. “Go” is taken from the band’s recently released A Ways Away EP, which is streaming everywhere now.
