Happy 60th birthday to Phish bassist Mike Gordon—one of rock’s most distinctive musicians. Renowned not only as a bassist but also as a composer, filmmaker, bandleader (Mike Gordon Band), songwriter, and all-around musical eccentric, Mike’s creativity has shaped the Phish experience for decades.
Phish fans know and love his vital role in the band’s rhythm section, as well as his unmistakable “hey!” sprinkled throughout fan-favorite tracks like “Mike’s Song,” “Weekapaug Groove,” “Scent of a Mule,” and “Train Song,” not to mention the many covers he leads with his unmistakable voice. With Mike now turning 60, all four members of Phish have crossed that milestone—and somehow, they’re still jamming hard. Lets revisit the Phish “Bathtub Gin” from The Great Went in 1997 in honor of Mike’s birthday.
