Golden Age Thursday: Misfits Shock at Pennsylvania Community College Live 1983

There are many recognizable logos throughout the history of rock. The Rolling Stones’ tongue and lips, Nirvana’s yellow face, and Pink Floyd’s rainbow prism design can be seen plastered across posters and t-shirts at your local surf shop. Yet, they represent historic bands that created lasting legacies and unwavering fan bases. Punk has plenty of examples of this, but one ghostly face reigns supreme as one of, if not the most recognizable, band logos to emerge from the early days of the genre. We’re of course discussing Misfits, the Glen Danzig-led, horror-fueled punk provocateurs whose skeleton face logo has been etched into the minds of punk fans since they debuted the look on the cover of their debut single back in 1979.

A logo is only as memorable as the band that represents it, which brings us to this beautifully haunting Golden Age Thursday. This week, we have raw footage of a Misfits show from 1983, recorded at a community college in Pennsylvania. The footage showcases the band’s pure intensity as they sprint through a memorable setlist that includes “I Turned Into a Martian” and “Devillock.” You can check out the performance below.
