In 2022, Jones released her critically acclaimed album Stories Up High, co-produced with Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff). The record marked a turning point in her artistic evolution, praised for its cinematic scope and introspective songwriting with expansive arrangements and lyrical intimacy. In 2024, her single “Stay At Home” received rave reviews, from the likes of Glide Magazine, hailing, “With vocals that bring to mind artists like Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker, Jones balances her poignant songwriting with a grungy indie rock sound that veers from mellow to crashing.”
In the years since, Laney Jones and the Spirits have become a compelling live force, sharing stages with artists like Kurt Vile, Mirador, The Heartless Bastards, and earning spots at Pickathon, Harvest Festival, SXSW, and other national festivals. Their performances, driven by Jones’s evocative voice and her vintage 1960s Silvertone guitar, channel both gritty rock energy and subtle vulnerability, supported by longtime collaborator and drummer Brian Dowd, who also serves as her creative partner.

Today, Glide is excited to offer an exclusive premiere of the band’s new single “Another Rolling Stone” (ORDER) along with its music video. The stomping tune oozes with slacker-rock swagger with Jones’ ice-cold cool vocals elevating a propulsive soundtrack of huge, shredding guitars. Jones gives us serious rock star vibes as she prowls the streets of Nashville and belts out lyrics before the song gives way to a gloriously vicious onslaught of feedback-laced guitar ripping and crashing drum bursts. Ultimately, “Another Rolling Stone” is yet another example of the massive power of this band, which might just live up to what the lyrics suggest.
Jones describes the inspiration behind the tune:
“This song was written early one morning, in the inspiring throes of recording our last album, Stories Up High, back in December 2020. It was one of those songs that just popped out into existence. It was my mission statement. Where I wanted to head next sonically. What I want to do with my life…be another link in the chain of lifer musicians, committed to the craft. I truly believe life is about constant change and movement. At least that’s when I feel most free: gathering no moss, rolling ‘round this beautiful world with people who are also on that same quest. I’m honored to be road dogging it with and have recorded this song with friends like that — the Spirits — Brian, Carson, and Glen.”
