Guri Yeller is a psychedelic rock band formed by multi-instrumentalists Harry Paterson and Matthew Banton in 2022. Hailing from Bolton, Greater Manchester, with a decade-long friendship at its heart, the music reflects the wide variety of genres from which the co-frontmen draw their own influences, as well as the songwriting chemistry between the two.
“Sister Misery” is part of the duo’s recently released two-pack single that touches on the band’s natural knack for infectious melodies while simultaneously highlighting Guri Yeller’s artistic range. Their new single features splashes of psychedelia that blend seamlessly with the duo’s pop tendencies, creating a genre-blurring trip through dense synths and fuzzy textures. The rainbow of plush textures and distant vocals hit you all at once, but that is not to discredit the nuances at play on “Sister Misery.” Lyrically, there is a poetic undertone to Guri Yeller’s new single that adds an emotional depth to the thick synth melodies. A closer listen to the new Guri Yeller single reveals a poignant portrayal of pain, heartbreak, and the importance of growth. Banton and Paterson are slowly approaching a sound they can call their own, and “Sister Misery” is their next sonic leap towards expressive individuality.
