The Sam Siefert Ensemble Project is a large ensemble from Innsbruck (Austria), including 11 musicians. The sound of the ensemble is a mixture of different vibes, colors, and emotions. In the texts of their music, they deal with respecting each other and celebrating the differences among all people. Individualistic improvisation should give every member the choice to create their own vision of the solo and sound.
On their new single, “Despite Everything,” the ensemble showcases their palpable chemistry as they piece together a cinematic, nostalgic journey. The nearly six-minute tune sounds straight out of a noir film, with wistful vocals navigating a honed yet expansive arrangement with dramatic flourishes and sweeping melodies. There is something romantic about the way the vocals interact with the instrumentation, almost as if they’re performing a slow dance after a grand, candle-lit dinner. The intimacy of the moment is not lost within the sprawling “Despite Everything,” as the band miraculously stretches the limit of their sound without losing that quaint, welcoming feeling that makes them such an exciting addition to modern jazz. “Despite Everything” is an immersive, moving listen that positions The Sam Siefert Ensemble Project as a forward-thinking, modern jazz marvel.
“There is always hope to move on. No matter how hard the times are. Believe in yourself and in humanity. Love will always win,” says the band when asked about their new single.
