Yonder Mountain String Band’s Annual Cabin Fever Tour made a stop here with supporting act of Tony Furtado. With a large number of bluegrass fans eager for some music, the show sold out early with its limited number of tickets.
In a somewhat unusual twist on the notion of “headliner” and “opening acts,” the three women shared the stage for the entire evening, playing a single-song set each while the other two sat, then waiting patiently – or singing along – while the other two did the same.
With most of the songs played during the set slated for a new full length in the works, black rimmed glasses wearing girls and Chuck Taylor sporting boys all across the country will be able to decipher the words and sing-a-long to Dirty on Purpose in the near future.

The day after the release of Mountain Tracks Volume 4, the fourth release of their live series from independent label Frog Pad Records Yonder Mountain String Band performed at the historic Tampa Theatre, with opening act Tony Furtado.
The band seemed to have a decent stage presence and the tracks on their debut album are played in a punchy Franz Ferdinand style that should translate live, but I guess we will have to wait for another show to find out for sure.
Seattle’s Rocky Votolato is an old voice for a young crowd. Opening for Bob Mould last week, Votolato inherited an audience arguably present to see an icon, and took them on a ride of his own making. With a soulfully evocative voice, Votolato and his über-competent backing trio led the audience down the musical back roads of what sounded like the American southwest, with a touch of Nashville and hint of Austin thrown in for good measure.
It wouldn’t be fair to compare my first Sigur Ros concert experience with the one I had last week. You see, in 2004 I witnessed one of my favorite live concert experiences in Louisville at the Brown Theatre when Sigur Ros was on their first American tour. Being exposed to the band and their unique stage show was amazing. So, heading into Thursday nights show at the Taft Theatre, I naturally had high expectations. However, my expectations were that I would not be able to duplicate my initial experience.
Cake took over the House of Blues with a show so exothermic it thawed through the harsh conditions and truly brightened up the faces and hearts of all in attendance.
