David Lee Roth Named As One of Howard Stern’s Replacements

The long wait for Howard Stern’s replacement on 27 stations owned by Infinity Broadcasting ended today (Oct. 25). Splitting its morning strategy by regions, the company has named former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth to take over Stern’s slot in New York on WXRK-FM and other East Coast markets, while TV personality Adam Carolla will host mornings in Los Angeles on KLSX-FM.

Stern begins his new deal with Sirius Satellite Radio in January. His last Infinity broadcast will be Dec. 16.

Roth’s show will also air on WBCN-FM Boston (where he cut his broadcasting teeth earlier this year in preparation for the new gig), KLLI-FM Dallas, WYSP-FM Philadelphia and WRKZ-FM Pittsburgh.

Carolla’s show will air on KIFR-FM (formerly KEAR-FM) San Francisco, KPLN-FM San Diego, KZON-FM Phoenix, KUFO-FM Portland, Ore., and KXTE-FM Las Vegas. Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will serve as creative consultant for “The Adam Carolla Show,” make guest appearances and serve as an advisor to Infinity.

Also joining Infinity’s morning lineup is Penn Jillette, one-half of the entertainment duo Penn & Teller. Beginning in January, Jillette will host a one-hour live radio show on Infinity’s stations in New York, Chicago, San Francisco (KIFR), Washington, D.C., Detroit, San Diego, Baltimore and Las Vegas.

Not all Infinity stations that carried Stern will get a Stern replacement, such as KITS-FM San Francisco. The modern rock station known as Live 105 will launch the Morning Music Co-op, an entertainment-based program featuring alternative music with listener-call-ins and minimal commercial interruption.

Apple Faces Suit Over iPod Nano

Apple Computer Inc. faces a lawsuit that alleges the company knew its nano portable music player was defective but still decided to press on with the product’s release last month.

The lawsuit depends on a judge to decide whether it can be grouped with other complaints to win class action status. Sales of iPods account for almost a third of Apple’s sales.

The credit card-sized nano, which replaced the best-selling iPod mini and is smaller than the traditional iPod, met with rave reviews. But users quickly started grumbling on Internet message boards that the device’s screen scratches too easily.

Kaiser Chiefs Lead Singer Collapses Onstage

Kaiser Chiefs lead singer Ricky Wilson dramatically collapsed following the band’s O2 NME Rock ‘N’ Roll Riot Tour show in Birmingham.

The band had just finished playing at the city’s Academy on Sunday (October 23) when the energetic frontman rushed off stage and fainted.

A statement from a source close to the band told NME.COM: “He got knackered and flaked out. There was first aid at the side of the stage and they gave him some water and then he was bright as a button two minutes later.”

Another witness posting on the Kaiser’s official website kaiserchiefs.co.uk said: “He did literally just collapse and Nick (Hodgson – drummer) poured a bottle of water over his head and he still didn’t get up.”

The O2 NME Rock ‘N’ Roll Riot Tour hits London’s Brixton Academy tonight for a three-night, sold-out stint and also sees performances from Maximo Park and The Cribs.

Kaiser Chiefs release their next single ‘Modern Way’ on November 7.
