The Minus Five: The Gun Album

As a collective, the latest from The Minus 5 is summed up by “Cigarettes Coffee and Booze” and “Twilight Distillery,” two substance flavored tracks that toy with rockabilly, country and jangly pop. Sure, we’ve heard this all before with The Minus 5, but it’s the guests that keep you coming back. “The Gun Album” is no exception.

Rocky Votolato/Bob Mould : Nuemo’s, Seattle, WA 2/15/2006

Seattle’s Rocky Votolato is an old voice for a young crowd. Opening for Bob Mould last week, Votolato inherited an audience arguably present to see an icon, and took them on a ride of his own making. With a soulfully evocative voice, Votolato and his über-competent backing trio led the audience down the musical back roads of what sounded like the American southwest, with a touch of Nashville and hint of Austin thrown in for good measure.

Guns N’ Roses Confirms Two Summer Shows

Seldom seen but often gossiped about Guns N’ Roses is set to play the RDS Arena in Dublin, Ireland, June 9 and at the Download Festival in Donington, England, on June 11.

The Dublin gig also features Motley Crue. Tickets go on sale February 25 through Ticketmaster and the usual outlets. Guns N’ Roses’ last Irish concert was at Slane Castle in May 1992.

Tickets are already on sale for the Download Festival. The three-day event will see Metallica headline on June 12. Other artists confirmed include The Prodigy, Deftones, Korn, Lacuna Coil, Clutch, and Hatebreed.

The GNR touring lineup hasn’t been announced – at least not by Axl Rose. There have been a lot of Internet forum posts about the classic GNR band-mates reuniting to perform but that seems unlikely, even under the most ideal circumstances.

The real questions are: Is the incredibly long-time-coming album ever going to see the light of day, and can a tour happen without the drama and trauma that has surrounded the last several efforts to get the band in front of its fans?

Earlier this year, Rose told Rolling Stone that GNR would finally release the Chinese Democracy album this year. A number of tour dates have been talked about – including a Rock in Rio Lisbon stop and summer festival dates in Italy, Germany and Austria. So far, only the Dublin and Donington concerts have been confirmed.

Tim and Ida: A Love Story To Debut At Greenwich Village Center

Tim and Ida: A Love Story is a New Musical from Tree Theatre. Bryan Grossbauer and Mike Papaleo skillfully transform themselves into a pair of old retired cronies, a couple of post-college slackabouts, a frail old woman, a suburban housewife and two omniscient rapping doctors who prefer to kick it old school. These are the people who walk the halls of Shady Pines Nursing Home. Tim and Ida is their story.

‘If “Harold and Maude” were performed by two improv comedians channeling the Beastie Boys, the result might look a lot like “Tim & Ida: A Love Story.” Mike Papaleo and Bryan Grossbauer present this titular May-December romance between a twenty something stoner and his arthritic paramour as a tale told by Drs. Finkelstein and Dr. Samuelson, two nursing-home medics who supply Greek-chorus-style commentary in the form of goofball raps. If you’ve been looping “The Chronic (WHAT) cles of Narnia” on your video iPod lately, you’ll crack up at this cleverly written live show.’ -John Pavlus
