Cameron Strang, president of New West Records, announced the signing of Grammy award-winning artist Steve Earle. Earle plans to enter the studio this fall and his label debut will be released in the first half of 2007. New West is also sponsoring “The Steve Earle Show” on Air America.

“Signing Steve Earle is an honor. Steve is an artist in the truest sense of the word and is one of the finest songwriters America has ever produced. He is a passionate performer, writer and an activist who stands up for what he believes in. This will mark Earle’s first album of all-new material since 2004’s Grammy winning The Revolution Starts…Now and the longest he’s gone between records in over a decade. Never one to remain idle, Earle’s been busy with various other projects including producing a record for his wife (Allison Moorer), hosting a radio show on Air America, touring, and writing his first novel. In addition, his play, Karla, made it’s New York debut.

Twenty years ago, Earle broke into the music scene with a #1 country record, Guitar Town, and he has sold over 10 million albums worldwide. His broad collection of work includes such critically acclaimed albums as Copperhead Road, Train a Comin’, I Feel Alright, El Corazon, The Mountain and Transcendental Blues. His most recent work Jerusalem and The Revolution Starts…Now represents his outspoken political side.

He is co-managed by Danny Goldberg at Gold Village Entertainment and Burt Stein at Gold Mountain and is booked by Frank Riley at High Road Touring.

Fisherman, farmers and chefs, foresters, stilters, marching bands, economists and Everyone Orchestra will converge in the living room of Portland

Singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur will kick off a fall North American tour Sept. 25 in Philadelphia. The outing comes in support of his new album, “Nuclear Daydream,” due Sept. 19 via his new Lonely Astronaut imprint.

Arthur will also make several TV appearances in the coming weeks, beginning Sunday (Aug. 13) on A&E’s “Breakfast With the Arts,” where he will perform two new songs and sit for an interview with KCRW’s Nic Harcourt. He will also appear Oct. 10 on CBS’ “The Late Show With David Letterman” and Oct. 17 on “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson.”

The artist has recently been decamped in Los Angeles while working on another new album, which is expected to be released next year. The sessions have featured contributions from multi-instrumentalist Mathias Schneeberger and Twilight Singers leader Greg Dulli.

Before the headlining dates, Arthur will perform alongside Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and many others at the Osheaga festival, to be held Sept. 2-3 in Montreal. On Oct. 28, Arthur will perform at the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans, where he previously lived. Galactic has announced their “Left Coast Run.” Set to begin on October 17th in Chico, California, the tour will span the West Coast before winding up in the band’s hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana for their Halloween night party at Tipitina’s Uptown. Galactic’s own Stanton Moore will pull double duty on the West Coast, supporting the dates with his powerhouse trio which features New Orleans organist extraordinaire Brian Coogan and Bay Area guitarist Will Bernard. This tour will include visits to San Diego’s and LA’s House of Blues, the Catalyst in Santa Cruz and San Fran’s Fillmore. As part of the “Left Coast Run” Galactic will also visit sunny Las Vegas to perform at this year’s Vegoose Music Festival to be held on October 28th and 29th at the Sam Boyd Stadium.

Dave Chapelle has quietly scheduled a cross-country tour that will keep him on the road for most of August.
The comedian will wrap his sold-out 15-show residency at San Francisco’s Punch Line August 9, then hightail it to Norfolk, Va., two days later to launch a road trip that will take him through a dozen cities.
He’ll take almost no days off during the next couple of weeks, hitting Pittsburgh, Detroit, Boston and more.
Two shows are booked for Toronto’s Massey Hall, and he’ll wrap the run with another pair of gigs at the Borgata Hotel / Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., August 25-26.
Chappelle toured briefly in February with Mos Def and Erykah Badu opening, and hosted a series of sold-out gigs in Florida this June.
The hit Comedy Central series “Chappelle’s Show” has been on indefinite hiatus since Chappelle left abruptly in April 2005. In an appearance on the Bravo channel’s “Inside The Actors Studio” earlier this year, the comedian said he’s been enjoying getting back to live performance.
“When I’m on stage, I get real happy there,” Chappelle told host James Lipton. “Maybe that’s the only time in my adult life I feel like myself.”

Wilco percussionist Glenn Kotche and guitarist Nels Cline will hit the road together for a handful of dates this fall, beginning Sept. 18 at Lincoln Center in New York. Kotche will be supporting his most recent release, “Mobile” (Nonesuch), which was released in March. Cline will be supporting material from his last two Cryptogramophone sets, “Instrumentals” and “The Giant Pin” (which featured Jon Brion and Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier).

Kotche will also be featured at the Modern Drummer Festival Weekend 2006 on Sept. 16. Other artists set to perform at the event include Death Cab For Cutie’s Jason McGerr, the Police’s Stewart Copeland, Mastodon’s Brann Dailor and Danny Seraphine.

Meanwhile, work continues on Wilco’s new album. Having just played Lollapalooza in Chicago, Wilco will regroup for three shows in early October; frontman Jeff Tweedy will play solo on Aug. 16 at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh and at the Folks Festival in Lyons, Colo., on Aug. 18.
