So I’m perusing Genesis-Music.com the other day and click on an interview with Mr Collins about the release of their new gigantic DVD When in Rome, set to hit US Wal-Marts with a fury on June 10. Phil, like so many fraudulent times before, goes over his sentiments on “being off the road” and “focusing on family” and what not. HOWEVER, he oh-so-slyly slips in this epic gem of a quote:

There remains a possibility of doing a reunion performance of “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” with Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, but Collins said that will be “for something special” like a one-off performance rather than a full touring production.

File this one under the “Are You Fucking Kidding Me?” pile. Way to just slip in a bomb like that. I’m sure hardcore Rael fans started busting out their costumes for the occasion. If you’re paying really careful attention to what I write in Cover Wars you might recall that I said I was going to ten straight weeks of Cover Album Wars instead of the older format where we had multiple versions of the same song. Well, I lied. This week I’m taking a request I have received and we’re taking a look at nine covers of Can’t Find My Way Home. CFMWH comes to us from the greatest super-group of all time: Blind Faith.

Blind Faith was a short lived band, releasing just the one self-titled album. Founding members Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood (who wrote the song we are discussing) recently performed three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in February of 2008. However, the show was billed as Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood and not as Blind Faith.

Scotty loved the idea of digging into the archives yesterday so much so that we’ve decreed it Classic Rock week around here. Sorry to spring it on you without any

Japanese horror films have a way of getting under your skin and staying there for the entire weird ride. The films, by their very nature, are slightly different than western versions of this demented genre as the recent renaissance would indicate. And the Americans have been happily remaking them one right after the other, but something seems to be lost in translation, indeed, as the creepy qualities don’t linger quite as long.

That isn’t to say that the American take on Ring wasn’t filled with whacked-out goosebumpery, or that its legions of imitations haven’t had a scare or two, as well. However, there is something to be said about the original films, as the Japanese, for just a few dollars less, can scare the shit out of you and make that silly little walk back down your dark hallway even more daunting than it was when you weren’t suddenly hearing teeth chattering, distant whispers, and strangulated monkey yelps. No, I haven’t a clue what a “strangulated monkey yelp” sounds like, but ‘creepy’ is the right word for this week’s initial film in our Hidden Flick – Double Feature, Ju-On, which, in good ole Americanized English, translated to Buffy the Vampire playing the lead in The Grudge. As I prepared to head over to Terminal 5 to catch a jaw-dropping performance by The Raconteurs on Saturday night I got a text message from HT contributor Halpua: “about to watch STP at the Arts Center. 14 years since the last time. Kinda giddy.” For those of you who suck at acronyms, Hal was at the PNC Bank Arts Center where the Stone Temple Pilots were slated to headline the K-Rock Return of Rock show.

Well, Hal’s enthusiasm was short lived. An hour later I got another text message from him: “Shitshow here. Taking an eternity to get on stage. Crowd booing.” STP finally took the stage about twenty minutes later, and Scott Weiland incoherantly babbled an apology onstage. At the time no one knew exactly what was going on, but K-Rock DJ’s Opie and Anthony filled us in on the shitshow this morning. We especially love the part where one of the DeLeo brothers started shouting “Axl” at Weiland’s tour bus. You gotta listen to this after the jump:

You should have seen this one coming. With gigantic festivals of 40,000+ capacity crowds popping up more often than Willie “Mays” Hayes, the little ones are going to get some praise. Well, the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, IL earned plenty of it over this past Memorial Day weekend from the 12,000 attendees who experienced a pretty flawless execution.

The wait to get both in and out of the festival totaled – I kid you not – zero seconds, the food and drink vendors were plentiful and delicious (cheers to that veggie pizza stand over by the Sunshine Stage), meeting up with people was a breeze and the bands threw the shit down. Over the course of four days and nights, the weather spanned a range of about forty degrees, the tornado sirens went off, the mud came and went (twice), the sunburn was everywhere and nobody seemed inconvenienced. Why? Because, festivals are pretty easy when there aren’t too many people.
