Accolades don’t seem to stick to Doug Martsch. The singer, guitarist and songwriting force behind indie rockers Built to Spill has seen his share of praise in close to two decades with the band. He is often touted as one of the genre’s best guitarists, and the group has released six albums to critical acclaim – most recently 2006’s You in Reverse.
Both members of the Grateful Dead’s drum section, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, have put together stellar bands for separate tours this summer. Billy takes to the road next week
For those of you heading out to the Summer Camp Festival this weekend, we’ve got a band for you to check out. If you’re into kickass prog-rock capable of knocking
When the nominees for the New Groove Award were read at the recent Jammy Awards, Massachusetts’ The Brew got the biggest ovation from the crowd. After listening to their new album, Back To The Woods, I can understand why people are so into their music. The Brew has spent the last five years developing a unique songwriting style that combines flashy changes, beautiful lyrics and hooks you just can’t get out of your head. They also know how to kick out the jams behind Dave Drouin’s soaring guitar leads. 2008 looks to be the year that The Brew breaks into the bigtime. You can check ’em out at moe.down or pretty much any decent sized city in the Northeast over the next few months. Keep your eyes on these guys, they are the real deal. – Scott Bernstein

A few weeks ago we told you about Carrie Brownstein’s Monitor Mix post calling out the Grateful Dead for asking NPR to write a piece on them in exchange for
To paraphrase Beck, if Evil Urges were one long note it would flash off some sick 17-octave range and put Celine Dion in a straight-up headlock. It's rare enough to find a well constructed album, but when a group of rapidly rising rockers rip off something this tightly diverse, well, the general public is sure to get put on notice come June 10th, the album's public release date.
Last month we gave you the news that ATO Records would be releasing a deluxe 15th anniversary edition of Liz Phair’s seminal album Exile In Guyville this June. Since it’s
Well, as I’ve bitched and moaned about the last couple of weeks, finding an album where different artists have covered all the tracks is getting harder and harder. So I’ve been forced to delve into Greatest Hits albums, which is fine…
So now that I’ve opened the doors to it, I’ve selected the 1986 release by The Police, Every Breath You Take: The Singles. This is an interesting one because The Police are certainly a unique sounding trio of musicians and the vocals can be particularly challenging.
As always, please register/login with Imeem to ensure that you’re getting full length tracks and not just 30 second snippets. This week there are a few artist that are embedded only with YouTube and will not appear in the playlist below.

It only took seven years for the mainstream media to realize that there must be something to the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, which attracts crowds in excess of 80,000 people every year to Southwest Tennessee, that’s worth covering. Well, yesterday news broke that the music network Fuse had struck a three-year deal to be the “exclusive television partner” of the festival.
Since I’m not making it down their this year, I’m sure I’ll be glued to my TV set all weekend long for their coverage – though fist step is to figure out what channel Fuse is. Let’s also hope that the network that is is known for it’s love of all things emo and mainstream rock has no input in the lineup or else next year we might be seeing My Chemical Romance playing the Hot Topic Tent. But we have faith the fine folks at Superfly know better than that. Right?

I know we missed our usually Monday morning link dump, so don’t hold it against us that Hors D’Oeuvres are a day late – but everyone loves leftovers though right?
