Rage Against The Machine: Hollywood Palldadium, Hollywood, CA 7/23/10

On July 23rd the mighty middle-finger to-the-establishment collective known as Rage Against the Machine delivered a volcanic set at their first Los Angeles show in ten years, at the Hollywood Palladium. The show’s purpose was to raise funds for Arizona organizations fighting the state’s new immigration law SB-1070. The benefiting organizations include community organizing group Puente, Arizona, as well the Florence Project, providing legal counsel and social services to immigrant communities. By the end of the night, the show raised consciousness of the issue, upward of $300,000, and a few thousand clenched fists.

Certainly Joanna Newsom shares quite a bit of celebrity throughout the United States, but rarely have I witnessed such ardent fervor over her and her music as that of a Bay Area Joanna Newsom fan. Perhaps it comes from the fact that she grew up near here, or that she is second cousins with mayor Gavin Newsom; however, there is no exact answer save the fact that she holds the power to keep her fans always wanting more, while satisfying and exceeding their own expectations of her.

Alkaline Trio, Andrew W.K., Face to Face, The Casualties, Pennywise, Attack Attack, Four Year Strong, Mayday Parade, We The Kings, NeverShoutNever, Reel Big Fish, Alesana, and Left Alone are among the bands that played at this years Warped Tour. To the disappointment of the crowd, Sum 41 did not play. The lead singer, Deryck Whibley, was reportedly sick. However a few members of the band were later spotted by fans enjoying the performance of Alkaline Trio, the last band to play.
