It was Lyle Lovett, in town for an outdoor show at the Lowell, MA Boardinghouse Park on a perfect summer evening, here to tell us that for tonight we were forgiven for not being Texans, and for a few hours he took us in, boots, belt buckle and Texas twang. Lovett was back on the road, in support of his new record Natural Forces, halfway through a tour that started in July in Oklahoma and will wind up at the end of the month outside of Burlington, VT.

For years country music superstar Dierks Bentley has made it known of his love for bluegrass music. So it was no surprise to his fans that he announced he was releasing a bluegrass project this year. Bentley recruited well known friend and producer/songwriter Jon Randall to help put together an album that would honor his love of this genre while putting his own spin on it.

This album, recorded at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ in the summer of 1990, finds Johnny Cash on his way back up. He was working with Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings on the Highwaymen's second album during this time and this was not the shell of Johnny Cash that did variety shows in the 70s, but a very vital artist. All of this points in one direction: a fine performance. And that's just what was uncovered here.

On the surface, St. Louis country-rock artist Rena Summers has a lot of things going her way. She has just released her debut album, It’s All About You, a collection of songs that were mostly written herself. She has a band that knows how to bring her songs to life, capturing simple and pure energy to complement her vocals. And on this special night, she got to show off her tunes and her band off at one of St. Louis’ best venues for intimate, live music: The Sheldon.
