After more than a decade, dozens of releases, a personal battle with cancer and touring relentlessly, Andrew McMahon should be ready to settle down as a retiree on a Florida golf course at the ripe old age of 29. But he’s not. His band, Jack’s Mannequin, brought its unrivaled energy to Kansas City’s Beaumont Club support of its latest album People and Things.
The lineup for this year’s Coachella dropped early this morning and it’s no joke. Goldenvoice put together a well-rounded bill that starts with headliners Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, The Strokes and Kanye West and includes HT faves The Felice Brothers, Tame Impala and Trampled By Turtles.

Welcome to a new year of Cover Wars. I could think of no better cover tune for the occasion than this 1983 U2 classic. New Year’s Day has quite the resume appearing in both Rolling Stone’s and Pitchfork’s Top 500 songs of all-time.
