Phish Summer 2011 Leg One Survey Results

Phish Summer 2011 Summer Tour Leg One is now nothing but a memory. Super Ball IX, which will undoubtedly create unbelievable memories for the fans that are there and also those listening at home, is knocking on the door. But what about the memories of Leg One? What did everyone think? Well over 1,000 fans took the time to fill out our survey and shared their thoughts on the venues, the songs, the jamming, the ticket prices and even the band’s legendary ‘Fleezer.’

We will follow up with another survey at the end of the summer after what may be the last tour for a while. Until that time, read on for a snapshot of what fans are thinking about Phish right now.

So is Phish just going through the motions? Or performing at the top of their ability? The very first question sums up the general consensus: Phish is ROCKING! Only 14% of fans rated the First Leg at “Average” or lower. Overwhelmingly, “Phenomenal” or “Very Good, Some Gems.”

Did everyone think this has been the best tour since Hampton 2009? Yes! A majority of fans [56%] think this is the tour to listen to so far.

All of These Dreams Come True for Phish Fan

Longtime Phish fan Kristen Goess spent her 31st birthday watching her favorite band in action at Portsmouth, VA’s nTelos Pavilion. Please welcome Kristen to tell the story of her truly incredible day…

When Phish announced their summer tour this year, there was no question that I would be seeing them play in Portsmouth, VA. Why Portsmouth? The band’s show at the nTelos Pavilion fell on the date of my 31st birthday.

As a Mother’s Day gift this year, I surprised my mom with tickets to see my favorite band on my birthday. Some may see that as a pretty selfish gift, and maybe in hindsight it was, however when she found out she was more than thrilled. After all, she has seen her daughter travel the country and even out of the country to see this band since 1997. When Phish quit in 2004, I was so bummed that I would never be able to share with my mom what had been such a significant part of my life. When they reunited in 2009, I vowed that as soon as I felt was the perfect opportunity, I would take my mom to a show. A Mother’s Day gift at a Father’s Day show felt quite appropriate in a not-so-appropriate way, if you know what I mean.

Around 6AM on Sunday, June 19, I boarded an airplane out of Denver, CO after not going to bed all night in anticipation for the following day’s events. I had a connecting flight in Washington, D.C. that I had to make otherwise I would never had gotten to experience what ensued later that evening. I jogged through the Dulles Airport with 10 minutes to spare. As I boarded that aircraft, I began to get butterflies. I was almost at my destination.

Take The Phish Leg One Survey

Ever since 2009, we’ve been teaming up with Parker Harrington, aka @TMWSIY, who created a comprehensive survey asking fans for their thoughts about the recently completed first leg of Phish Summer Tour 2011. Parker’s poll includes questions about the webcast, your reading habits, the venues and most importantly plenty of questions about the music from the leg. Next week we’ll provide the results.

Phish Portsmouth nTelos: Setlist & Skinny

We’ve come to the end of the first leg of Phish Summer Tour 2011. Tonight’s performance at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion in Portsmouth, VA is the 18th and last of the run. Phish has only played at the intimate venue once before this evening, back on June 15, 2010.

[From @Phish_FTR]

Phish played on Father’s Day for the third year in a row tonight. To mark the occasion, the band members welcomed each of their fathers to the stage during the show opening Harpua. This extreme rarity (10th version in 15 years) didn’t feature an extensive narration with guitarist Trey Anastasio taking a quick opportunity to welcome the audience to the show and explain that the tune was performed in honor of a fan a sign for their 31st birthday. The fan was birthday girl Kristen Goess who attended the show with her mother. She brought a sign that said “31 Minute Walls of the Cave” on the front and “For My 31st Birthday” on the back. Kristen not only got Harpua played in her honor, but Walls of the Cave as well (though not a 31-minute version). Trey then introduced all of the band member’s fathers who helped sing the call and response section at the end of the song making for a memorable moment.
