In 1999, Phish’s Trey Anastasio started touring solo and experimenting with arrangements other than the standard rock four-piece. The first tour was a straight-up power trio, but then he began to add horns and various layers until it stabilized with the current ten-piece band. No matter the lineup, it has always seemed he had a full orchestra playing in his head. On his new release, Seis de Mayo, we finally get to hear some of these songs the way he had always envisioned them.
Although the arena setting is rather overbearing on most barstool performances, the acoustic set of Dave Matthews and Friends was quite solid, highlighted by strong readings of
Dave Matthews and some of his friends came to Hartford and gave
everyone an early present for the Holidays – a joyous, energetic sho. Moving from one end of the musical spectrum to the other, Dave and his friends mixed originals effortlessly with covers ranging from Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Sly and the Family Stone, Bob Marley and The Band.
In a musical landscape filled with stoic performers, Jennifer Hartswick of the Trey Anastasio Band brings forth a commanding display of charisma and color to the stage, which has truly brightened the live concert experience. Now with TAB on hold, Jen is busy finishing a new album, and simply thrilled to have the unique opportunity of sharing her love of musical expression with others.
