100 years ago today (8/29/1920), the great Charlie “Bird” Parker – a truly legendary jazz saxophonist and composer was born in Kansas City, KS. Although he died young at 34 in 1955, The Bird gave rise to bepop and a sensational jazz movement that brought an edgy twist to an idiom that was often rooted in traditionalism.
