20 years ago today (4/5/02), Layne Staley of Alice in Chains died at the age of 34. Staley and his distinctive tenor voice helped give Alice in Chains a potent sound that defined the grunge era. Along with Jerry Cantrell, Alice in Chains produced arguably the tightest song catalog of any hard rock band of that era- grunge or no grunge.
