25 years ago today (1/16/96), Cibo Matto released its debut studio LP Viva! La Woman. The Japanese-American duo led by Miho Hatori and Yuka Honda, covered all things food on this debut with song titles “Apple,” “Beef Jerky,” “Birthday Cake” and “Know Your Chicken.” Aside from the digestible tracks the recording was a novel turn of trip-hop with swing grooves, adventurous rhymes and bossa-nova bass lines.
