35 Years Ago Today – D.Boon of Minutemen Dies Tragically (Watch “Corona” Live)

35 years ago today (12/22/85), D. Boon, guitarist and vocalist for Minutemen, one of the all-time great American punk bands, died in a van crash. Hailing from the blue-collar port town of San Pedro, California — Boon, bassist Mike Watt and drummer George Hurley were noted for “jamming econo”—a sense of thriftiness reflected in their touring and presentation. Their 1984 double album Double Nickels on the Dime continues to be one of rock’s most crowning achievements. Watch Minutemen play “Corona” off Double Nickels, a song that later became recognized as the theme for MTV’s Jackass.
