30 years ago today (5/25/93), Donald Fagen of Steely Dan made a big return to original music following years of inactivity in music (save for The New York Rock and Soul Revue) with the release of his second solo album Kamakiriad. While his solo debut The Nightfly, touched on topics of Fagen’s youth, Kamakariad tackled middle age and climate change, while smoothly washed in the R&B/Jazz sounds that have dominated Steely Dan’s late 70s work. Fagen joined up with his musical partner Walter Becker as producer on this project which led to Steely Dan touring again for the first time since 1974. Watch Steely Dan live in 1933 on the comeback tour – full show, Nashville, 9/16/93.
