30 Years Ago Today- The Allman Brothers Band Retool With Warren Haynes/Allen Woody On ‘Seven Turns’

30 years ago today (7/3/90), The Allman Brothers Band released their “comeback” LP Seven Turns, which marked their first album since 1981’s disjointed Brothers of the Road and their strongest LP since 1973’s Brothers and Sisters. Featuring a retooled Allman Brothers Band that included Warren Haynes (guitar/vocals), Allen Woody (bass) and Johnny Neel (keyboards), the band came out firing on the heels of their second reunion spearheaded from 1989’s 20 year anniversary tour. Original members Dickey Betts, Gregg Allman, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe offered muscular chops and inspired new songs. The title track, “Good Clean Fun,” “True Gravity” and “Loaded Dice” (Haynes on lead vocals) showed depth and songwriting chops that revived the Allman Brothers Band into their new era of being one of rock’s top guitar bands that would see them perform at NYC’s Beacon Theatre over 230 times in the following 25 years. Check out the powerful instrumental “True Gravity” off Seven Turns..
