30 Years Ago Today: Tool Releases Defining Debut EP ‘Opiate’

30 years ago today (3/10/92) Tool released the first official sonic template of their soon-to-be genre-defining prog-metal sound with the release of their Opiate EP. Featuring seven songs spanning six tracks, two of which are live recordings, Opiate is considered by many to be Tool’s heaviest release, as its bold statement led accordingly to Undertow, Tool’s breakthrough release a little over a year later.
