35 Years Ago Today – Ramones Release ‘Brain Drain’ Album

35 years ago today (5/23/89), Ramones released their eleventh studio album Brain Drain. The album is notable for marking the return of Dee Dee Ramone as a key songwriter before he left the band shortly after its release – making this his last album with the band. It also features the band’s original drummer, Tommy Ramone (credited as producer under his real name, Erdélyi), in a production role. Johnny Ramone and Dee refer to Brain Drain as their least favorite Ramones album, as it was recorded during a heavy time for the band. However, the album did contain “Pet Sematary,” which was written for the Stephen King movie adaptation of the same name, and it became one of the Ramones’ biggest radio hits and a staple of their concerts during the 1990s
