40 Years Ago Today – ABBA’s ‘The Visitors’ Becomes The First Album Pressed On Compact Disc For Production Runs

40 years ago today, in the true age of vinyl and cassette, the PolyGram pressing plant in Hanover, West Germany, pressed the first production compact disc. The very first pressing was ABBA’s 1981 album The Visitors, however, the production run of the album did not go on sale until the end of that year. Well, we might as well give this lesser-known ABBA title a spin.
