45 Years Ago Today – Last Concert at Fillmore East Occurs (Listen to Final Show/Radio Broadcast)

45 years ago today (6/27/71), the final concert to take place at the Fillmore East occurred. The final concert took place on June 27, 1971, with the billed acts: The Allman Brothers Band, The J. Geils Band, Albert King, and special surprise guests – Edgar Winter’s White Trash, Mountain, The Beach Boys, and Country Joe McDonald – in an invitation-only performance. Owner/promoter Bill Graham sited “changes in the music industry” for its closing. The East Village venue opened on March 6, 1968 and was a companion venue for Graham’s Fillmore Auditorium, and its successor, the Fillmore West, in San Francisco. Among the many bands to play historic gigs there were Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Allman Brothers Band, CSN&Y and Led Zeppelin.
