45 Years Ago Today – Neil Young Releases ‘American Stars ‘n Bars’ LP

45 years ago today (5/27/77), Neil Young released his eighth studio LP American Stars’ n Bars. Compiled from recording sessions scattered over a 29-month period, it includes a rather mixed bag of tunes (some short, some long, some country, some rock). The standout track from the album is “Like a Hurricane,” and the various tunes that feature backup vocals from Linda Ronstadt, Nicolette Larson and Emmylou Harris (“The Old Country Waltz”, “Saddle Up the Palomino”, “Hey Babe”, “Hold Back the Tears” and “Star of Bethelem).  Although credited to Young, his backup band was his three Crazy Horse members of Frank Sompedros, Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot along with pedal steel ace Ben Keith. Listen to “Like A Hurricane” off the LP below….
