50 years ago today (8/17/70), Christine McVie officially joined Fleetwood Mac as the band that formerly leaned heavily on the blues would being their arc towards pop songcraft. McVie’s distinct songwriting, vocals and keyboard work helped give Fleetwood Mac their signature sound along with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
As a fan of the band prior as a member of the group Chicken Shack, (as Christine Perfect) McVie contributed (uncredited) to 1970’s Kiln House, singing backup vocals and playing keyboards and she also drew the album cover. Married to the band’s bassist John McVie, Christine got the gig and has helped pen many of Fleetwood Mac’s signature songs on their most commercially successful albums. Let’s watch McVie perform “Miles Away” & “Believe Me” from the 1973 Midnight Special..
