50 Years Ago Today – Sparks Release ‘Kimono My House’ Album

50 years ago today (5/1/74), Sparks released their third album Kimono My House. While the subject of the best Sparks album conjures up many contenders, Kimono usually finds itself at number one on most lists. The Mael brothers had their breakthrough with this release as it was a big hit in the UK and turned ears with a proto-punk sound soaked in glam with help from a well-versed British backing band. “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us” and “Amateur Hour” are both familiar Sparks favorites to casual fans, while the rest of the album flows cohesively and still sounds relevant today thanks to artists like Beck and Franz Ferdinand.
