50 Years Ago Today – The Beatles Played Their Last Ever Gig on a Rooftop (Watch “Don’t Let Me Down”)

50 years ago today (1/30/69), five stories up above the Apple Corps building on 3 Savile Row in London, The Beatles played what would become their last ever gig. In the midst of filming a documentary that would be covering the recording of the songs that would later make up the band’s final album, Let It Be, The Beatles decide they needed to do something climactic.

Joined by Billy Preston on the keys, the Beatles played through five songs in 42 minutes, some of which were repeated multiple times. “Get Back,” which would end up as the final song on Let It Be, was performed three times, while “Don’t Let Me Dow”n and “I’ve Got A Feeling” both featured twice. There was a single rendition of one of the earliest Lennon-McCartney compositions, “One After 909”, as well as a new track, “Dig A Pony.” Watch “Don’t Let Me Down” from the up there performance..
