60 Years Ago Today- The Moody Blues Released Debut Album ‘The Magnificent Moodies’

60 years ago today (7/23/65), The Moody Blues released their debut album The Magnificent Moodies. The debut presents a band quite different from the lush, symphonic rock act they would later become known for. At this early stage, R&B and British beat music heavily influenced the group, more in line with The Animals or early Rolling Stones than with the progressive rock they’d later help define. The lineup featured Denny Laine on lead vocals and guitar (who would later join Paul McCartney’s Wings), Ray Thomas, Mike Pinder, Clint Warwick, and Graeme Edge. Watch the young Moody Blues perform “Go Now” live..
