Happy 60th birthday today to Helen Folasade Adu better known as Sade born on 1/16/59. The British Nigerian singer, songwriter, and /actress, known for her smooth jazzy vocals released the album Diamond Life in 1984, which became one of the best selling albums of t/he era, and the best-selling debut ever by a British female vocalist. Her follow up Promise (1985), which was also a resounding critical and commercial success, topping the UK Albums Chartand becoming the band’s first album to debut atop the Billboard 200. Although her output is few and far between, it’s been nine years since 2010’s Soldier of Love – here’s to her making a comeback soon. Watch Sade perform “Your Love Is King” live at Live Aid ’85….
