Its not often we get to celebrate 90 and over here, but let’s give a shout-out and Happy 95th Birthday to jazz great Dick Hymen (born 3/8/27). Since beginning his musical career in the 1950s, Dick Hyman has released over 100 albums and played on hundreds of sessions mainly on the piano. In 1969 he shook it up when he released two albums of songs arranged around the Moog modular. Moog: The Electric Eclectics of Dick Hyman and The Age of Electronicus blended classical themes into a modern realm of possibility. Hyman’s work has been sampled in songs by Kendrick Lamar, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, and Kanye West. Check out “The Minotaur” which reached #27 on Billboard R&B Singles and #38 on the Billboard Hot 100.
