Jerry Joseph and the Jackmorons Announce New LP – ‘Singing In The Rain’

Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons announce the October release of Singing In The Rain LP, out on Cosmo Sex School Records the Oct 3 digitally followed by the accompanying physical release on October 21.

Singing in the Rain began as a simple collaboration between friends. Joseph, who has been fronting the Jackmormons for nearly two decades, came together with bassist JR Ruppel, drummer Steve Drizos, as well as Walter Salas-Humara, of 80s New York underground darlings The Silos over a couple weeks with producer Pat Kearns (Lovvers, Sons of Huns, The Exploding Hearts) in Portland, Oregon and laid down basic tracks for what would not only become Singing in the Rain, but also Salas-Humara’s new solo release, Curve and Shake, also due out this year.

The current touring band includes Dex, Stevie James Wright on bass and Jeff Crosby on guitar. Longtime bassist for the group, Junior has taken leave of the band amicably. In the words of Jerry Joseph:

“Junior has left the building. Said he has “stuff to do”. It’s been a fucking mind-numbing remarkable whirlwind of 19 years and we wish him only good things. He would however like his Burt’s Tiki Lounge punch card back. So pony up. While Junior will certainly be missed by no one more then Dex and myself, Steve and Jeff are monster (and good looking) players that have been actively in our universe for years. Love and blessings and kisses to all but to our friend Junior most of all.”

The album, a combination of newly written material and gems from Joseph’s and Salas-Humara’s back catalog, comes out storming with “Arms By Your Side”, co-written with Salas-Humara and backed by powerhouse punches from the Paul Brainard Horns, led by the Portland/Austin multi-instrumentalist known for his work with M. Ward, The Eels and Alejandro Escovedo. Up next is long time Jackmormons’ fan favorite “Three Mile Island”. Previously unrecorded, this soaring epic with a stadium rousing chorus features Ruppel’s angelic tenor harmonies and the gorgeous piano flourishes of Jenny Conlee-Drizos (Black Prairie, Decemberists). Other standouts tracks include the besotted swagger and return of the horns in the Jackmormons’ cover of The Silos’ hit, “Drunken Moon” and the Costello-channeling exuberance of the album’s closer and title track, “Singing in the Rain”.

As a companion to the Singing in the Rain release, Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons are also releasing their new live concert DVD, Nicaragua, recorded over three nights just outside of Rivas, Nicaragua.
