SONG PREMIERE: DRKWAV – “Scars” (Medeski, Skerik, Deitch)

Anyone who follows the jam, funk, and jazz scenes could probably rail off a list of musicians who would play in their dream collaboration. For music nerds this is like building your fantasy football team. Featuring three titans of the scene in Skerik (saxophones), John Medeski (keyboards), and Adam Deitch (drums), DRKWAV is most definitely one such collaboration. On their upcoming album The Purge – due out February 24 on Royal Potato Family Records – this trio of badasses explores what can be described as acid jazz for the 21st century. The album as a whole feels like some sort of psychedelic experiment into the minds of these musicians, but the songs also manage to stay locked in a danceable groove. Here at Glide Magazine we’re excited to present the exclusive premiere of one of the album’s tracks, “Scars”, a song that epitomizes the magic being created by these three wizards of jam. Skerik shared his own thoughts on what “Scars” means and also sheds some light on the group’s process:

“‘SCARS’ represents the damage of the past, the carnage of creation, and the continued power of repeat, the loop does not lie, and it is multiplied.” – Skerik, DRKWAV
