The legendary Roots crew announced their annual ROOTS PICNIC is returning to Philadelphia’s Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing on Saturday, May 30th for the biggest event yet. The festival is celebrating its eighth year with an eclectic lineup over THREE stages boasting performances by: The Weeknd, Phantogram, Erykah Badu (backed by The Roots), A$AP Rocky, Hiatus Kaiyote and more.
“The Picnic in Philly is always an event that we look forward to,” said Maverick’s Shawn Gee, Roots Manager and Executive Producer of the festival. “It continues to get larger each year and the addition of the 3rd stage and the increased size of the footprint will allow us to significantly increase the number of fans that get the chance attend this year. The lineup is a diverse mix of great bands that will deliver a great musical experience to our hometown crowd.”
Last year’s Roots Picnic was another sold-out affair with the likes of Janelle Monáe, Action Bronson, araabMUZIK, The War on Drugs all hitting the stage. The highlight of the night was the explosive performance Snoop Dogg, backed by The Roots. In previous years, performers at The Roots Picnic have included: The Black Keys, John Legend, TV on the Radio, Nas, Vampire Weekend, Kid Cudi, Public Enemy, Santigold, Gnarls Barkley, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Gary Clark Jr., James Murphy (DJ set), Rakim and many more.
